Work History
Prior to arriving at CALSTART, Leah served as the Director of Sustainability at a regional planning organization and launched multiple programs during her 8 years of service.
Shepherding the development and growth of a Green Fleets program, Leah spearheaded the replacement of over 80 vehicles with low- and zero-emission alternatives, including electric school buses, terminal trucks, and light-duty vehicles.
She secured the only Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Charging & Fueling Infrastructure Round 1A grant awarded in Indiana, designed to proactively advance public EV charging infrastructure in the state. Additionally, Leah received statewide recognition as part of the first class of Hoosier Resilience Heroes in 2019, an honor awarded by Indiana University. In 2021, she was also honored with the Empowering Woman Award from Indiana’s Clean Cities organization.
Education & Certifications
- Master of Science in Environmental Science from Indiana University
- Master of Public Affairs from Indiana University
- B.S. in Chemistry from Goshen College
Work Approach
Leah is inspired by the embrace of zero emission technologies in rural areas and small towns like the one she was raised in, which challenge monolithic assumptions about values or motivations for adoption of new technologies. She is driven by the urgency to accelerate the adoption of technology solutions that exist today, and in fostering collaborative teams and partnerships, she aims to cultivate an environment where candid feedback and diverse perspectives lead to stronger outcomes.
